Membership
The Rotary Club of Key Largo
is currently composed of 40 members. The majority of our
members are very active in local charities and organizations
including; Leadership Monroe, The Key Largo Chamber of Commerce,
The Islamorada Chamber of Commerce, and The Florida Keys Children
Shelter.
Club History
January 24, 1990 was the first meeting
as provisional club, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Upper Keys
of which J. Allison DeFoor II was President. The meeting was held
in Key Largo at the Holiday Inn.
March 3, 1990, Formal application for Charter as Rotary Club
of Key Largo was mailed to Rotary International.
April 4, 1990- First breakfast meeting at Sheraton Key Largo
Resort.
April 9, 1990 Our club was admitted as Rotary Club of Key Largo
by Rotary International.
We began with 66 charter members. Current charter members are
Wm. A. (Bill) Andersen, Robert (Bob) Cullin, John Duffy, Gretchen
Holland and Spencer Slate.
June 19, 1990 was our charter banquet. Our President was John
Duffy, The President of Rotary International for 1989-1990 was
Hugh M. Archer and the Governor of District 699 for 1989-1990
was Garth R. Parker.
July 2, 2008 Our club, after 18 years, moved location to Coconuts at MM 100

Highlights
August 6, 1991, designation of 2 non smoking tables and our
Board approved incorporating our club.
April 15, 1992, we replaced the Veterans War Memorial sign at
TIB Key Largo (MM100) and had a rededication.
April 7,1992 Jim Boilini joined our club
August 22, 1992 our club raised $3000.00 at our first annual
golf tournament held at Keysgate.
Bonnie Young (Leinart) was pinned amember on January 13, 1993.
February 1993, the board meeting moved from Holiday Inn to the
Sheraton.
March, 1993, Dave Whitney was the first Paul Harris Fellow of
our club with Gretchen Holland following shortly thereafter.
April 1993, Dave Whitney team leader from our club led the GSE
team to Japan. August 1993, our first annual Ladies Dolphin Tournament held
at the Sheraton.
